About Us

The N.S.Memorial Institute of Medical Sciences located at Kollam,Kerala,India,was founded in the year 2006 in memory of the late.N.Sreedharan,a renowned humanaitarian and politician.The first Co-operative Multi Super Specialty Hospital in South Kerala.N.S.Memorial Institute aims at providing the best of medical facilities and services at affordable costs.The hospital which started as a small venture has undergone remarkable growth in infrastructure facilities and general amenities over the years.Currently the hospital is undergoing an expansion of infrastructure worth Rs.20 crores of which Rs.10 crores has been alloted under the NCDC(National cooperative development corporation)scheme.

More than 300 highly trained,skilled and motivated medical and paramedical staff utilize their expertise to the best interests of the patients.There are 21 specialty departments and 40 doctors including 32 post graduate doctors.With a working capital of 14 crore Rupees collected from 2300 share holders and 80 institutions,the hospital is developing fast.The share holders can avail free treatment in any hospital in India proportionate to the share amount.The administration of NSMIMS is controlled by an eleven member executive body.The board members are elected every 5 years as per the co-operative department rules and regulations.

 

Philosophy

1.The faculty of this college believes that the professional Nursing Degree Course based and built on sound scientific Educational theory and Practice,prepare our students to provide comprehensive care with the compassion to all individuals of various age groups,in all health care agencies and function effectively as a team member.

2.We also feel the need in developing a scientific and research attitude and an ability to meet the issues and challenges confronting the nursing profession today.

3.We also recognize the need for preparation of nursing leadership to enhance nursing image and practice.

4.Education is a change in behavior,which best occurs in an organized environment.Nursing should prepare Nurses for first level position in Nursing in both hospital and the community.We have a responsibility to the students and society to make student a responsible citizen as well as a good Nurse.

5.Professional nursing is a lifelong service to the people.Nursing must advance along with other health professions,for a balanced health care program.Therefore,we prepare students to develop ability to analyze situations and problems critically and to take responsibility for their higher education for maximum professional effectiveness throughout their career.

6.We recognize that the nature of nursing is such that a substantial portion of students learning is acquired in the education are and it is interdependent with allied professions and occupations to promote and maintain the nursing standards.

AIMS & CONTENT

The main purpose of the undergraduate degree in Nursing is to provide an educational programme through which the graduates will be prepared to assume responsibility in the primary,secondary and tertiary care of people as professional nurses.It is expected that graduates are capable of teaching and supervising appropriate nursing and health care in different settings and participate in the administration of nursing service and education.

Purpose:The Important purpose of our Institution is to provide professional education based on scientific principles.The graduates are expected to provide supervision and teach nursing and health care in the hospitals health centers,rural and urban community,health agencies,industries,nursing institutions,educational institutions and national and international organizations and actively participate in the administration of nursing service and education.

This will be done by means of a programmed teaching which is geared to the health needs of the country,community and the individual in society ,which will serve as a basis of advanced study and specialization in nursing and will assist Nurses in their personal and professional development.So that they may make their maximum contribution to society as individual,citizen and as Nurse.
